escapes its way to DVD in Canada on August 19, 2014
“Loved Homeland? Wait until you see the inspiration.” – The Guardian
“It’s simply the best series I’ve watched in the last decade, bar none.” – Macleans.ca
“This Israeli series on which Homeland is based, continued in its second season to be a quiet, intelligent, moving and profoundly sad examination of the wages of permanent conflict.” – The New York Times
Bring home Prisoners Of War Season Two, the Israeli show that was remade into the Emmy-winning American series Homeland, as Video Services Corp. (VSC) releases the complete second season on a four-disc DVD set. The set features all fourteen one-hour episodes of Season Two, dropping the viewer into the collateral damage of the Israeli/Palestinian conflict. Creator, writer, and director Gideon Raff is also a writer and executive producer on Homeland.
When three Israeli Defence Force reservists are captured behind enemy lines in Lebanon their fate is unknown, that is until seventeen years later, when they mysteriously return – two of them alive, the third in a coffin. The story of their time in captivity unfolds as they attempt to reintegrate into society; trying to cope with the pressures of being reintroduced to their families and friends, as well as handling the national hero status thrust upon them via the public limelight. Season Two begins where the first ended – Nimrod and Uri continue to pick up the pieces of their lives, but are now shocked to discover that Amiel Ben Horin is alive and living as a Muslim in Syria. The two contact Haim and implore him to investigate. Has Amiel been turned? Has he joined the terrorist organization that kidnapped and held them for 17 years? All the while, Amiel is torn between his allegiance to family and homeland, and a chance to live a new free life.
At the time of its original Israeli broadcast in March 2010, the series instantly ranked as Israel’s highest rated TV drama of all time. Prisoners Of War took home top honours at the 2010 Israeli Academy of Film and Television Awards, winning the Best Drama Series award. For their work on the show, Raff took home Best Directing of a Drama Series, and actors Ishai Golan and Yael Abecassis took home Best Actor/Actress in a Drama Series, respectively. During its entire run, the show has won nine Israeli Academy of Film & Television Awards overall, in addition to the Grand Prize at the Seoul International Drama Awards in 2013.
Both the first and second seasons of the show aired on Super Channel in the summer of 2013.
