Amazon Falls
Directed by Katrin Bowen

Opens in Toronto, March 18, 2011, for a week’s run at the Carlton Cinema

“A groovy, scrappy and unpretentious little Vancouver shot serio-comedy, Amazon Falls is the kind of offbeat, oddball low budget opus that gives Canadian film a good name.” – – – – Chris Alexander, Metro Canada

For her role as Jana, April Telek received the Artistic Merit Award from Vancouver`s Women + Film In Television

Amazon Falls made Canada’s top ten at the 2010 Vancouver International Film Festival

Director/Co-Producer Katrin Bowen was honoured with Vancouver`s Women In Film & Television’s 16th Annual Artistic Achievement Award, for her vision and direction on Amazon Falls.

After an extremely successful world premiere at TIFF last September, award-winning director Katrin Bowen brings her first feature, Amazon Falls, to theatres across Canada, starting in Toronto, March 18, and Vancouver, April 15.

Amazon Falls is based on Katrin`s B-movie experiences in Los Angeles and unapologetically exposes the grit behind the glitz of fame. Featuring actual midnight-movie footage from Katrin’s brief foray as a Troma Films actress, Amazon Falls centers on a pitch perfect performance by former beauty queen April Telek (Flight 93) as Jana, an aging starlet who refuses to give up on the Hollywood dream.  April received the Artistic Merit Award from Vancouver`s Women In Film & Television for her performance as Jana. She is supported by a stellar supporting cast, including: Anna Mae Routledge (Harpers Island, 16 Wishes); Zak Santiago (Young Blades, Alice); Ben Ratner (Fathers and Sons, Da Vinci’s City Hall); William B. Davis (best known as “Cancerman” from The X-Files); Tom Braidwood (The X-Files, The Lone Gunmen); and Gabrielle Rose (The Sweet Hereafter, Hungry Hills).

Katrin was born in England and moved to Linden, Alberta at the age of five.  From growing up in a Mennonite community in Linden to acting in b-movie kickboxing films in Los Angeles to writing and directing independent films in Vancouver, Katrin has led an eclectic life.  An alumnus of the University of California at Berkeley, The Cannes Producing Intensive, Women in the Director’s Chair and the Berlinale Talent Campus, Katrin speaks four languages and lives in Vancouver, B.C.

Amazon Falls was made with the kind assistance from Telefilm Canada, and the Canada Feature Film Fund, along with the generous support of the WIDC.
