Canada Cup ‘84
Nine Classic Games on Five Discs
30th Anniversary Edition Available December 23, 2014
“…must-see viewing for those who watched it live and those who haven’t seen it.” – Hockey Hall of Fame journalist Scott Morrison
The 1984 Canada Cup was about redemption and even that didn’t come easily. With the stunning defeat to the Soviets in the 1981 Canada Cup final still hanging over their heads, Team Canada stumbled out of the round robin with two wins, two losses and a tie. It would all boil down to a semifinal rematch against the still powerful Soviet squad.
Thirty years later, for the first time on DVD, fans can relive the legendary series played on home ice that featured one of the most exciting sudden-death overtimes in hockey history. The five-disc comprehensive Canada Cup ‘84 DVD set is available on December 23, 2014, from Video Services Corp. (VSC) with a suggested retail price of $49.98.
This Canada Cup ‘84 anniversary set contains in full all eight of Team Canada’s games from the tournament, including the dramatic overtime win against the USSR in the semifinal and the two-game final against Sweden. This compilation includes semifinal commentary by the Hockey Hall of Fame journalist Scott Morrison and Team Canada assistant coach Tom Watt, classic commercials and interviews from the original broadcast, and even Team Canada’s 1981 loss to the Soviet Union, the game that sparked the 1984 comeback drive.
In addition to Team Canada’s all-star lineup featuring hockey legends Wayne Gretzky, Paul Coffey, Mark Messier, Raymond Bourque, Larry Robinson, Glenn Anderson, Mike Gartner, Steve Yzerman and Mike Bossy, the tournament brings rare early looks at future Hall of Famers Dominik Hasek, Igor Larionov, Mats Naslund and other stars from the international competition.
Team Canada fans can also delve into hockey history with VSC’s Canada Cup 1976 and Canada Cup 1987 retrospectives, available from VSC.
