Following its TIFF World Premiere which kicked off its incredibly successful festival run, amounting to an endless amount of rave reviews and accolades, In Her Place is back in Toronto for its theatrical premiere, starting February 13, at the Carlton Cinema.

Shin’s powerful drama has been nominated for seven Canadian Screen Awards (CSA): Best Motion Picture (Shin, Igor Drljaca, Yoon Hyun Chan), Achievement in Direction (Shin), Achievement in Editing (Shin), Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role (Yoon Da Kyung, Ahn Ji Hye), Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role (Kil Hae Yeon), Original Screenplay (Shin, Pearl Ball-Harding).

“It is both incredibly exciting and humbling to have had festival audiences around the world embrace the film so warmly” says Shin “and now, to bring it home and open theatrically in Toronto feels like I’ve come full circle in this amazing journey.”

A mysterious woman (Yoon Da Kyung) arrives at a Korean farm, to stay with a mother (Kil Hae Yeon) and her strange teenage daughter (Ahn Ji Hye). A mutual arrangement ties them together, but the apparent stroke of luck proves fraught with unresolved turmoil and tragedy.

The film is a production of TimeLapse Pictures – the company that Shin and Igor Drljaca own together. In Her Place sees Shin reverse the filmmaking roles he shared with Drljaca on 2012’s acclaimed Krivina, when Shin produced and Drljaca directed. The two remarkable York University grads switched hats this time around, with Drljaca producing.
