Saloon Media Goes For Executive Gold

Fledgling Fact-Based Prodco Expands Its Talent Pool

As It Preps Debut Releases

Saloon Media, the new fact-based media venture from Michael Kot, today announced additions to its talent pool – creative minds responsible for some of the most compelling reality-based TV of the past decade.

Producer Steve Gamester, Producer/Director Paul Kilback, and Head of Production Betty Orr join Saloon as the new prodco ramps up its initial release slate.

“We’re expanding and growing with creative, excellent people that can build a vibrant company,” Kot says of the executive talent.

As it expands, Saloon is set to unveil some of its most-anticipated new productions, beginning with the “lady-killer” crime series co-production Handsome Devils, with more titles to follow shortly.

“I’ve had the good fortune and great pleasure of working with Steve and Paul on hundreds of hours of television over the years, both on the broadcasting and production side,” says Kot. “They are both dedicated to excellence in television and have a stellar track record in the industry.”

Gamester created, developed and produced the series Perfect Storms: Disasters that Changed the World and co-produced the feature one-off documentary The Great Escape: Secrets Revealed, while at eOne.  Prior to that, he co-developed and series produced Museum Secrets (a returning series on HISTORY). Gamester was also a Production Executive of Original Programming at CanWest and Alliance Atlantis and oversaw 300+ hours of programming for HISTORY, National Geographic Channel, Showcase and Global Television. While working as a PE he wrote and directed Turning Points of History: The General vs. the President. From 2002-2005 Gamester spearheaded acquisitions, scheduling and special event programming for HISTORY; he also co-produced and wrote War Stories with Lloyd Robertson and co-produced History on Film with Ann Medina.

“Our company is the new kid on the block. There’s no place I’d rather be,” says Gamester. “Michael said he had nothing to offer but blood, toil, tears and sweat. So of course I said: I’m in!”

Kilback produced Wild Things with Dominic Monaghan and the hit HISTORY program Greatest Tank Battles. Other producing credits include For King & Country, Striking Back, The Secret Liberators, Situation Critical, Design Match, Skooled, In Korea with Norm Christie, Shaye, Battlefield Mysteries, Swap TV, Kids World Sports and Treasure Trader. As a director Paul has an amazing variety of credits including: Wild Things with Dominic Monaghan, Greatest Tank Battles, Battlefield Mysteries, Carlawood, Museum Secrets, Shaye, The Final 24, The Secret Liberators, Time Blazers, Ghost Trackers, Skooled, Swap TV, Dogs with Jobs, Kids World Sports and Treasure Trader.

“For over a decade now we have worked together on a variety of compelling and ground-breaking productions, always to great success,” says Kilback. “Joining forces is just the natural evolution of our long term creative relationship.”

Also joining Saloon is Betty Orr as Head of Production. “We are lucky to have such a well- respected and accomplished television pro working with us,” says Kot. “Betty is the bedrock of Saloon and keeps us on track to deliver to our broadcast partners. “Betty’s wealth of talent and experience ranges from live television productions (JUNOs, Genies, Geminis) to television series such as The Kids in the Hall. More recently, Betty has worked on the following productions for eOne: The Great Martian War, Perfect Storms, SugarStars, The Great Escape, D-Day to Victory, as well as completing her role as Producer on two recent MOW’s, Rocky Road and Dear Viola.

“Just when I thought I’d experienced it all,” says Orr, “along comes this amazing opportunity to work with a new team in a supportive and creative environment.”

Kot closes by saying: “I am absolutely thrilled to be working with such immensely talented and creative people, together we hope to build Saloon into an internationally renowned media company.”
