Canadian distribution rights to
The Theft

Game Theory Films has acquired Canadian distribution rights to The Theft, the feature documentary from director Aisha Jamal, and producer Ed Barreveld of Storyline Entertainment.

Set against the fractured backdrop of Afghanistan, The Theft traces the journey of a series of 12th century marble panels looted from Ghazni during decades of war and upheaval. Today, many of these artifacts reside in major Western museums, raising complex and deeply human questions around ownership and cultural identity.

Through a curated Fall 2026 release, the strategy includes select festival and theatrical screenings, alongside a national outreach campaign designed to engage educational institutions, museums, and cultural organizations across Canada.

At the center of the story is Toronto-based Afghan historian Dr. Jawan Shir Rasikh, Director of the Afghanistan Research and Evaluation Unit, whose work reflects a generation shaped by exile and return.Through his perspective, the film examines what it means to reclaim history when the conditions for return remain uncertain.
