PRESS RELEASE

Someone’s Daughter, the new psychological thriller from director Wiebke von Carolsfeld, will make its world premiere at the Fantasia International Film Festival on Tuesday, July 21 at 6:30 p.m. at the SGWU Alumni Auditorium in Concordia University’s Hall Building, in Montreal.

Starring acclaimed Canadian actors Pascale Bussières and François Arnaud, Someone’s Daughter is a tense examination of justice and the consequences of a verdict delivered years earlier.

Bussières stars as Sam, a criminal defence lawyer who is kidnapped and abandoned on a remote island with Paul, a former client she successfully defended a decade earlier when he was accused of raping the kidnapper’s daughter.

As Sam and Paul struggle to survive the Canadian wilderness, an uneasy alliance begins to form. But when Paul’s behaviour becomes increasingly threatening, Sam is forced to reconsider what may have happened all those years ago and confront the lasting consequences of his acquittal.

The film brings Bussières to another demanding and morally complex leading role. Her extensive credits include Patricia Rozema’s When Night Is Falling, Denis Villeneuve’s August 32nd on Earth, the acclaimed television miniseries Blanche, and Ma vie en cinémascope, for which she received both Genie and Jutra awards for Best Actress. She stars opposite Arnaud, whose recent credits include Heated Rivalry, Fucktoys and The Borgias. The cast also includes Michael Greyeyes and Peter Outerbridge.

Someone’s Daughter is von Carolsfeld’s fourth feature film. Her previous films include Marion Bridge, starring Molly Parker and introducing Elliot Page, which won Best First Canadian Feature at TIFF, and was named to Canada’s Top Ten; the Canadian-Irish co-production Stay and The Saver

Written by Wiebke von Carolsfeld and Doug Taylor, Someone’s Daughter is produced by Frederic Bohbot and Kacim Steets Azouz of Bunbury Films, with Robert Vroom serving as executive producer. International sales and distribution are handled by Filmoption International.
