Jamie Lee Curtis in PROM NIGHT

Scream Queen Jamie Lee Curtis (the Halloween film series) and Leslie Nielsen (The Naked Gun film and TV series, Forbidden Planet) star in Prom Night, the celebrated Canadian slasher horror classic that’s newly-restored for its Blu-ray debut and a shiny new DVD version through Synapse Films and CAV. The US suggested retail are $24.95 Blu-ray and $19.95 DVD. Both formats were released in Canada by Video Services Corp. (VSC), with a DVD suggested retail of $22.98 and Blu-ray suggested retail of $29.98.

Synapse Films spent two years remastering and restoring the new version of Prom Night in 2K from the original 35mm camera negative with an all-new 5.1 surround mix and screened earlier this year in Montreal as part of the Fantasia Festival. The film, originally released in 1980, follows four Hamilton High seniors who are hiding a terrible secret. What happened to a young girl six years ago was a game that turned into a horrible tragedy, and someone saw what they did… someone waiting for gruesome revenge! Wearing a black hood and wielding an axe, a killer brutally slaughters the teenagers one by one at their high school prom.  As the spotlight falls on the newly crowned prom king and queen, the psychopath will show everyone his new favorite game to play…

The DVD and Blu-ray both feature a host of bonus features in a true Collector’s Edition, including audio commentary with Director Director Paul Lynch and Screenwriter William Gray, a Making-of Featurette, additional scenes and outtakes, and original trailer and television spots.

“We spent a lot of time and effort restoring Prom Night and we’re so pleased with the final result,” said Don May, Jr., President of Synapse Films, who restored the film and produced the DVD and Blu-ray. “It’s such a classic film it deserves to be seen in its best form.”

“We have enjoyed working with Synapse and their eclectic product and we’ve been pleased with the response from consumers to the restoration of Prom Night,” said VSC President Jonathan Gross. “You can’t go wrong with a Jamie Lee Curtis horror film and the Synapse team did a great job creating a special package for horror fans.”
