A heartfelt dark indie comedy about a bride and groom’s journey following the death of the best man at their wedding, Best Man Down – writer Ted Koland’s directorial debut- will be making its Canadian Premiere at the Whistler Film Festival, Thursday December 5, 4:00 pm, Village 8 Cinemas.

When their obnoxious and over-served best man, Lumpy (Tyler Labine, The Rise of The Planet of The Apes, Zack and Miri Make a Porno) unexpectedly dies at their destination wedding in Phoenix, bride and groom Kristin (Jess Weixler, Look Of Love, The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby) and Scott (Justin Long, He’s Just Not That Into You, Drag Me To Hell) are forced to cancel their honeymoon and fly home to the snowy Midwest to arrange for his funeral. But when they arrive they realize that there was a lot more to their friend than met the eye.

“A few years back, my brother told me a tragic, yet darkly comic story about a friend of a friend of a friend,” says Koland. “It seemed that this distant acquaintance had gotten blotto drunk at a ‘destination’ wedding and was found the next afternoon slumped over a Pachycereus pringlei. Honestly, I felt sorry for him. Surely there had to be more to the guy than his unfortunate death-by-cactus. Surely there’s more to all of us than one moment, good or bad.”

Partly shot in Koland’s native state of Minnesota, Best Man Down was produced by Jen Roskind, Sharyn Steele, and David Abbitt.
