“With visual and verbal humor hitting the mark…”  Alissa Simon, Variety

“…in a weight class of its own…”  Jordana Horn, The Jewish Daily Forward

In the Israeli city of Ramle, Herzl loses his job as a cook and starts working as a dishwasher in a Japanese restaurant. He and his overweight friends are fed up of dieting and the dieting club they belong to. While watching TV on the job, Herzl discovers the world of Sumo wrestling, a world where large people are honoured and appreciated.

Through Kitano, the restaurant owner and a former Sumo coach from Japan (who is supposedly hiding from the Yakuza in Israel) Herzl falls in love with the sport. He rounds up his beasty friends, and asks a reluctant Kitano to be their coach. But it’s not that easy with the ex-coach, he tells them they first have to earn their spurs.

A Matter Of Size is a comedy about self-acceptance and how a group of overweight friends leave the dictatorship of dieting behind and, through forming a Sumo club, begin to accept and connect with their overweight bodies.

The film opened the 18th annual Toronto Jewish Film Festival in May 2010.

This is a first dramatic feature for the directors, who both graduated from the Camera Obscura College in Tel Aviv.  A Matter of Size has travelled the festival circuit and has won numerous awards.
