PRESS RELEASE

Toronto-based electro-pop duo HarlowBardot return with You Sleep, a hauntingly cinematic single that delves into themes of escape, resilience, and reinvention. Releasing April 25, the song showcases the duo’s signature blend of brooding synth-pop, atmospheric textures, and evocative storytelling. Accompanying the track is a striking music video that visually amplifies its noir-inspired narrative, directed by Mark Wotton and shot by Chris Thompson.

With pulsating beats and moody synths, You Sleep paints a vivid scene of a protagonist fleeing a toxic relationship under the cool desert night. The track’s lyrical storytelling – paired with hypnotic vocals and an eerie spoken-word passage – creates an immersive experience, transporting listeners to a shadowy motel off a lonely highway.

“Writing the lyrics for You Sleep was a somewhat unique experience,” says Kinga. “I tend not to write about cinematically visual situations, but when I first heard the track, I immediately saw this dark, gritty motel in New Mexico and a character escaping into the night.” Though fictional, the imagery was inspired in part by Kinga’s travels as a makeup artist for Roberta Flack, which introduced him to unfamiliar and evocative landscapes.

The track also marks a shift in Kinga’s creative approach. “I was initially hesitant to include a spoken verse – I felt like I was treading on Neil Tennant territory,” he laughs. “But the producer insisted it stay. Now, spoken-word passages have become a recurring element in my songwriting.”

HarlowBardot is the musical union of Kinga and Marc Wonnacott, two veteran artists whose paths nearly crossed countless times before social media finally brought them together. Their debut single, Nothing (Stays the Same), was met with critical praise, with TINNITIST describing their sound as “a euphoric, otherworldly fusion of vintage synthpop, dance music, and electro-rock.”

The forthcoming You Sleep video, set to debut alongside the single, mirrors the song’s atmospheric tension with striking visuals and a film-noir aesthetic. Shot with a stylized, cinematic approach, the video heightens the sense of mystery and urgency, offering a gripping visual counterpart to the track’s lyrical narrative.

You Sleep will be available on all streaming platforms starting April 25, with the official music video premiering the same day. Stay connected with HarlowBardot on their website and social media channels for updates.
