PRESS RELEASE
Help Is On The Way is a stirring new documentary from award-winning filmmaker Mathew Embry (Living Proof, Painkiller: Inside the Opioid Crisis) that brings urgent attention to the global crisis of energy poverty, a reality impacting over a billion people who live without access to heat, power, or light.
Spanning regions from the Peruvian Andes and the Canadian Arctic, the film follows personal journeys from a group of remarkable individuals on the frontlines of energy justice:
Kevin Quillahuaman, a Peruvian guide offering unfiltered access to communities living without electricity.
Kalista McNabb, a Canadian student helping bring solar power to rural Peru.
Pavneet Cheema, a fellow volunteer whose experiences in India fuel her advocacy for energy justice.
Mykola Pelikov, a Ukrainian filmmaker and refugee whose perspective is shaped by war and displacement.
Blaine Chislett, an Inuk energy advocate working to reduce diesel dependency in Nunavut.
Aaron Cohen, the Executive Director of Light Up The World, who leads the effort to bring sustainable energy and connectivity to off-grid regions.
With striking visuals and deeply human stories, Help Is On The Way offers a rare, hopeful look at how grassroots efforts and renewable energy are transforming lives in some of the world’s most overlooked regions.
“We made this film to shine a light on an issue that affects billions of people but is rarely talked about,” says Director Mathew Embry. “Energy isn’t just about power, it’s about life. Without it, children die. Dreams die. But with it, the impossible becomes possible.”
The journey also reveals a paradox, even as Canada sits on some of the world’s largest energy reserves, it struggles to deliver affordable, reliable energy – at home and abroad. Additional experts in the film include Dr. Bjorn Lomborg, Dr. Monica Gattinger, and Theresa Waddington (LNG Canada) who explore the political and infrastructure barriers keeping Canadian energy from reaching those who need it.
Rather than framing the issue as fossil fuels versus renewables, Help Is On The Way calls for a blended energy approach, using every available tool to fight poverty and build a sustainable future.
“This isn’t about politics,” adds Embry, “it’s about people and the power to help them.”
Help Is On The Way offers a powerful look at the communities left in the dark, both literally and figuratively, and presents Canada with a powerful opportunity to lead the global fight for energy justice.
Produced by Muster Point Productions with Holly Dupej and Victoria McFadyen serving as producers, Help Is On The Way follows students, community leaders, and energy advocates working to bring light, heat, and opportunity to underserved regions. As the film unfolds, it challenges assumptions, inspires action, and calls on Canadians to recognize the power they have to make a difference.
In keeping with the film’s mission to raise awareness and spark global dialogue, Help Is On The Way will be released free to the public on YouTube through Muster Point Productions. This free wide-access release reflects the documentary’s commitment to making these stories available to the people and communities who need them most. And the comments will be open, a deliberate contrast to broadcasters who often disable discussion on sensitive issues.
