Nika & Madison
Directed by Eva Thomas
Announces Distribution Deal
and New Casting Additions

PRESS RELEASE
Nika & Madison, the new feature film directed by Eva Thomas, has been picked up by Game Theory Films for distribution. An adaptation of Thomas’s award-winning short film Redlights, the production has also announced additions to its cast: Amanda Brugel (Handmaid’s Tale, Dark Matter), Shawn Doyle (Star Trek: Discovery, Cardinal), Gail Maurice (Aberdeen, Night Raiders) and Jennifer Podemski (Aberdeen, Don’t Even) join the previously announced leads Ellyn Jade (Nika) and Star Slade (Madison).
The story follows Madison (Indigenous), who is arrested and sexually assaulted by a police officer after a night out. When her best friend Nika (Indigenous) takes matters into her own hands, attacking the officer to save Madison, the two embark on a harrowing journey. Together, the two flee to their reservation, seek refuge in the forest, and eventually travel to Toronto. Ultimately, they return home to confront the justice system that has failed their people for generations.
“Eva Thomas has crafted a story that is as compelling as it is urgent,” says Hilary Hart, Co-President at Game Theory Films. “We are proud to partner on this vital film and bring it to audiences in Canada.”
Amanda Brugel plays Detective Sergeant Angie Timmins, a skeptical investigator determined to uncover the truth about the attack on the officer; Shawn Doyle portrays Detective Ron Warhurst, a conflicted officer grappling with his loyalty to the force and the mounting evidence against his colleague; Gail Maurice takes on the role of Chief Sampson, the steadfast leader of the First Nation who offers crucial guidance to Nika and Madison. Jennifer Podemski rounds out the cast as Alicia Hall, who delivers a blunt assessment of Nika & Madison’s situation.
The film is slated for a 2025 film festival run, followed by a theatrical release, and broadcast and streaming debut on CBC, CBC Gem and APTN.
Nika & Madison is directed by Eva Thomas, co-written by Eva Thomas and Michael McGowan, and produced by Eva Thomas. Executive Produced by Jennifer Podemski, Paula Devonshire, Kaniehtiio Horn, Ellyn Jade, Tyler Levine, and Katelyn Cursio.
The film is generously supported by Telefilm Canada, Indigenous Screen Office (ISO), Ontario Creates, CBC Films, and APTN.
