Nika & Madison is a feature length adaptation of Eva Thomas’ award winning short film Redlights.
The story follows two Indigenous women, Nika and Madison, who flee their reservation after a violent encounter with a predatory policeman, embarking on a powerful journey of self-discovery, friendship, and redemption.
The film stars Ellyn Jade (Little Bird), reprising her role as Nika, and Star Slade (Dream Scenario) as Madison, who was selected from a nationwide search.
Produced and directed by Eva Thomas, Nika & Madison is Executive Produced by Jennifer Podemski, Paula Devonshire, Kaniehtiio Horn, Ellyn Jade, Tyler Levine, and Katelyn Cursio. The film, co-written by Eva and Michael McGowan, delves deeply into the complexities of Indigenous women’s experiences and the unbreakable bonds of friendship.
Production begins November 11 and will continue through December 9, filming in Toronto, Canada, and surrounding areas.
Nika & Madison marks Thomas’s first feature as sole producer and director. The film has received support from Telefilm, ISO, Ontario Creates, CBC Films, and APTN.
