He’s BAAAAAAAACK! Steven Kostanski’s latest horror-comedy, Frankie Freako, is set to be unleashed in Canada and the United States on October 4, courtesy of Raven Banner Entertainment, Hangar 18, and Shout! Studios.
Workaholic yuppie Conor has a dilemma: no one in his life respects him! Not his boss, not his coworkers, not even his wife Kristina, who thinks he’s an uptight “square”! Conor sees no way out of this existential rut until one night while channel-surfing, he catches a bizarre ad for a party hotline hosted by a strange dancing goblin: Frankie Freako. Conor is entranced by Frankie’s promises of wild and freaky adventures, just a phone call away – could this be just the recipe to spice up his flavourless life?
As a writer, director, producer, and special effects wizard, Kostanski is known for his creative genius and mastery of practical effects. Dubbed Canada’s top special effects artist, he’s brought his magic to horror favorites like The Divide (2011), The Void (2016), and PG: Psycho Goreman (2020), which became a cult favorite among horror and sci-fi fans. With Frankie Freako, he’s conjured up a new breed of tiny terrors to delight audiences and deliver even more nostalgia-fueled fun.
This time around, Kostanski pays homage to the beloved little monster horror comedies of the 1980s, like Gremlins 2 and Ghoulies 3: Ghoulies Go to College.

Produced and financed under the Hangar 18 Media banner, Frankie Freako is produced by Melanie Murray, Pasha Patriki and Kostanski. Additional producers include Raven Banner’s Michael Paszt, Andrew Thomas Hunt and James Fler. Avi Federgreen and Alison Waxman serve as executive producers, alongside Garson Foos, Bob Emmer and Jordan Fields for Shout! Studios.
The film’s creature effects were created by the newly formed indie FX house Action Pants FX, led by the producing team of Kostanski and his partners, Patriki, Paszt, Hunt and Fler.
Shout! Studios includes a cross-platform release, including theatrical, streaming, VOD, and home video, while Raven Banner Distribution handles Canada and international sales.
