“During my work on IN HER PLACE, I learned about the seriousness of Korea’s suicide rate,” says Albert Shin. “South Korea consistently has had the highest suicide rate of any developed nation in the world. As I did more research on the subject, I came across a related phenomenon of Internet suicide pacts, which is a very serious and peculiar issue in Korea’s suicide problem. Internet suicide pacts are when strangers meet on the Internet and make a pact to rendezvous somewhere to commit suicide together. 

“I’m interested in exploring moral and ethical questions through narrative storytelling,” continues Shin. “All my films are about seeking empathy and compassion in the grey zone of humankind’s relationship to nature and themselves. TOGETHER certainly fits in that canon.”
