Series Picked Up by Bell’s Fibe TV1 and Broadcast Premiere Announced

David J. Fernandes Productions and Evil Empire Studios are pumped to announce that their original new music series, The New Vibes, has been officially picked up by Bell’s Fibe TV1. 

The original compact 8-episode 12-minute music discovery series is produced by a team of local Hamilton-Niagara industry veterans who go behind the region’s most exciting up-and-coming musicians, featuring intimate interviews and massively multi-camera live performances filmed in iconic music venues across Hamilton and Niagara. Each episode highlights the artist’s journey, their unique sound, and a behind-the-scenes look at the spaces where they bring their music to life. 

Shooting began October 9, 2024 with the eclectic hip-hop / dance artist LTtheMonk at the historic Cotton Factory in Hamilton, a renowned creative hub repurposed from its industrial roots as the former Imperial Cotton Company Limited. LTtheMonk, known for his poetic lyrics and genre-defying beats, was filmed during his unique orchestral hip-hop fusion performance with the Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra, a live event co-presented by Sonic Unyon and FRESHUP Fest. 

Each episode includes intimate, behind-the-scenes footage of the artist’s pre-show preparations and a dynamic multi-camera capture of the live set, shot using cutting-edge 360 cameras and action cams, courtesy of world-renowned drone pilot and cinematographer, Christoph Benfey.

Bands featured in the first season include: Pink Is Black (along with Zoon and members of Broken Social Scene and Lee Ranaldo from Sonic Youth), Basement Revolver, cute, Days On Parade, Junestone, Miniscule, Golden Feather, and LTtheMonk.   

The series launches May 29, 2025 on Bell’s Fibe TV1, available on Fibe TV and the Fibe TV app. With plans to expand into a national series, The New Vibes celebrates the stories of musicians who have found their voice and built a following but have yet to break into the mainstream.

As the series dives into the heart of Hamilton and Niagara’s thriving music scene, each episode is introduced by a different guest host spanning music celebrities, journalists and local aficionados.

David J. Fernandes Productions Inc. specializes in producing highly original film and television titles spanning horror, sci-fi, comedy and documentary. In addition to The New Vibes, current offerings include Creepy Bits a 2-season horror anthology series available on Hollywood Suite and Amazon Prime. The company is also developing a new Rom-Com-Horror feature, working title, “Girlfriend From Hell.”

Katie Butt (Co-Producer / Editor / Music Curator): Guelph-based music curator and editor, pulling together the finest regional talent for the series.

Christoph Benfey (Director of Photography): A Hamilton-based Director of Photography and world-class drone pilot, Christoph’s visionary approach and technical expertise shaped the look and feel of The New Vibes.

Sarah Kapoor (Story Editor): Former CBC Factual producer and acclaimed interviewer, shaped the storytelling flow of each episode.
