MAKERS puts their imaginative collective of Producers forward to produce the 2022 Canadian Screen Awards

PRESS RELEASE

As a company that exists to break old models and reimagine the way things get made, Makers – a first-of-its-kind producer-only collaborative – is reinventing the 2022 Canadian Screen Awards show, which will broadcast on CBC and CBC Gem on Sunday, April 10 at 8:00 PM (9:00 PM AT / 9:30 PM NT).

It is a commitment to the craft of execution across all channels – whether acclaimed feature films, docu-style branded content or immersive experiences – that has set Makers apart from other production partners to become the choice for this years’ Canadian Screen Awards.

“Makers’ very reason for being is to empower Producers to make the things they believe need to be made,” said Sumit Ajwani, founder of Makers. “Bringing to the table a cross-discipline team – Producers with deep experience from commercial content and event production to feature development – is what allows Makers to transcend categories and collaborate with partners like the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television to put on the 2022 Canadian Screen Awards.”

In a departure from awards show convention, the 2022 Canadian Screen Awards will be a fast-moving one-hour show that will leave the audience wanting more. Amped with star power, the awards will recognize top talent, who will relate their experiences and also honour the artists who influenced them.

“The 2022 Canadian Screen Awards will be an awards show like no one has ever seen before, and we could not think of anyone better to partner with than Katie Lafferty, Roma Ahi and their brilliant creative producing team at Makers,” said Beth Janson, CEO, Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television. “We are beyond excited to work with them to bring this fresh and innovative celebration of the best in Canadian film, television, and digital media to life.”

It will be a no-host night, with a pace set by featured talent like the multi-award-winning sketch comedy troupe Tallboyz (Guled Abdi, Vance Banzo, Tim Blair, and Franco Nguyen).

“Producing the Canadian Screen Awards is truly a dream project for us,” says Producer Katie Lafferty. “I’ve been able to bring my experience in showrunning and development while collaborating with other Makers producers who specialize in experiences and content to deliver an epic end product for this years’ awards.”
